01Our brand family

OpenJungPurrJung

PurrJung belongs to OpenJung. It is the cat observation project in the OpenJung brand family.

OpenJung brand guide

We share curiosity, clear explanations and room for individual differences. PurrJung keeps its own name, watercolor artwork and warm visual style. OpenJung’s Cats appearance explores human personality playfully; PurrJung helps caregivers observe real cats. Brand affiliation does not change either project’s data or licensing terms.

02Name & purpose

Name

PurrJungpurrjung.org

PurrJung is one word, with a capital P and J, in every language. Use purrjung.org in public links. Keep OpenJung’s capital O and J in the parent credit.

Cat personality observations

PurrJung is a free OpenJung project that helps caregivers notice everyday cat behavior. Its four dimensions and 16 character types provide a playful starting point for observation, reflection and practical care.

The 16 types are a creative framework, not a validated animal classification or a veterinary assessment. Allow for unobserved behavior, results that lean neither way, and change over time. Avoid claims of diagnosis, guaranteed compatibility or open-source availability for this project.

03Visual language

Meet Ruby

Ruby is a white curled cat with rounded ears and back, a wrapping tail and a small red nose. This calm visual form is our symbol; it does not classify a real cat’s personality.

Use the rounded Ruby symbol with the PurrJung wordmark. Ruby is a geometric brand mark, not a watercolor portrait or a substitute for appearance and type portraits.

  • Use the white-and-red mark on a warm-stone background, or the ink monochrome mark on a pale background.
  • Leave at least a quarter of the icon width as clear space around the logo. Do not stretch, recolor, outline or shadow it.
  • At 16–32 px, use the supplied compact favicon instead of shrinking detailed portraits. Keep Ruby red local to the mark; it is not a new warning or action color.

Friendly headlines, clear reading

Get to know your cat by what they do.

Aa Bb Cc · 0123

Nunito 800 gives the wordmark and headlines their warmth; Sora 400–600 carries body text and controls. Both Latin families are self-hosted. Use appropriate local-script fallbacks, comfortable line spacing and readable contrast.

Sunny Room gives the home page a band of butter yellow; elsewhere the watercolor cats sit unframed on warm paper. Actions use pill-shaped buttons. Content is grouped with thin lines rather than boxed in cards, which are kept for things you operate. Long reading stays on warm paper with generous space, and cats stay whole. Touch targets are at least 44 px, keyboard focus is visible, and reduced motion is supported.

Topic-entry icons use simplified, softly rounded object shapes with one quiet secondary color plane. Action icons use consistent single-color lines. Keep both separate from watercolor scenes; Ruby is the brand mark, not a replacement for functional icons.

04Illustration

Portraits and scenes use natural-proportion storybook watercolor: believable adult cats, transparent washes, sparse light-brown pencil outlines and warm ivory paper. This editorial style does not apply to the abstract Ruby logo.

  • Keep the subject complete, with at least 8% breathing room. Preserve the ears, eyes and useful scene details.
  • Keep names, codes and captions outside the bitmap. Distinguish the Ruby symbol, type portraits, appearance avatars and editorial scenes.
  • Avoid toy-like proportions, oversized glassy eyes, fantasy coats, costumes and badges. Coat color or breed never determines a personality result.

05Voice

Warm, curious and specific, like a thoughtful cat-loving friend. Describe what someone can observe and what they might try, while letting the cat choose distance and participation.

Use

Does your cat watch a new toy first, or move closer right away? Notice what changes when the room is quiet.

Avoid

This breed is always friendly, and this type guarantees a perfect companion.

Clearly label fictional scenes. Separate observation suggestions from research claims, and explain uncertainty without judgment.
